the day the laughter died 8-11-14

Rest In Peace Robin Williams

You. Always the funny one. Always the entertaining one. You came into my life as a goofy space alien and never left.

Shazbot Mr. Williams!

You were loved and will be missed by so many. I am sorry you were not able to withstand the pain.

Heaven got a funny guy. Lucky them!

Black Rock Medival Festival

I went to my first Renaissance Faire. Great fun. We didn’t stay for the Jousting although, if you know me, I love a horse. And a man in shining armour would have made it all that more special but 2.5 hours was enough. I thoroughly enjoyed the birds of prey and we did get to see some shiny men sword fighting. (think WWE with armour)

So yeah, this grizzly dude must have been sweating bullets under there. A sweltering 85 degrees in the shade in Augusta MI that day. I hope to explore a bigger venue in the future. This was my “break in” of Ren Fests.

Oh, We got lost on the way home. So lost that we were going down roads that were narrow and dusty and I thought for sure that some freaky monster was going to jump out and get us. Yep, THAT LOST

Poverty Dead End!

Ha! I have moved to the end of a cul-de-sac. Do I love it? Not so much.

BUT I do love the man who rescued me from the single life. well…in a relationship, not married. yet…not 100% sure we will ever go there but ya never know.

The homestead is not what I would have dreamed of. I can’t even have a goat (that’s a joke because we live in an association that rules what we can do with our own property). Not a fan. We pay $300 dues a year for the snow plowing. Everything else we have to take care of.

We are happy for the most part. And Skeeter and his life Amber purchased Poverty Corner so it all worked out for the most part. and Scooter lives there too. Everyone is back to their hometown. Yay!

ArtPrize 2011 – Oh yes I did!

I tore an ad out of a magazine of while back and vowed it would be my Halloween costume one day. Then I saw this at ArtPrize.

So yeah, I had to do it! And there is a reason why. Someone at work came up with the bright idea to keep us from being disturbed as we do our paperwork. We have to put this caution tape up across our cubical doorway. It attaches with magnets. I am rather embarrassed with it all. Does it work? Hell No. My BOSS actually broke through the tape to take photos of me in my get-up. irritating. My biggest pet peeve is all these people making all these ridicules rules and then breaking them daily. Whatever. Good thing I make good money!

So my friend Karen and I did it. She was more of the Bob the Builder dude. We were a hit. She wrapped her tape around a belt. Her hat says Artist at Work. Well, yes, we are artists! Graphic artists. Mine, I sewed most of it, but when it came to the top I ended up using staples. It’s kinda a throw away costume. But it made a Monday at work a bit more enjoyable.

ArtPrize 2011

This year I only made it a couple of times, the second, well my friend was more interested in a museum so I didn’t get to see alot of “new” art. Which was ok really, the streets of Grand Rapids were very shoulder to shoulder that Saturday evening.

But what I did see… compared to years past… a little disappointed this year. I was happy with the top ten contenders but the winner. NOPE. Not a fan.

My co-workers entries. Karen’s is a collage of flowers (a flower a day). She kept a blog and took pictures of her progress. People at work started bringing in random things for her creation. I stuck a CD in my microwave and risked killing it to give her something to work with. Very iredessant after cooking a few seconds. It’s the silver, poinsettia looking flower on the right, third from the bottom.

My friend Patricia entered this painting. She hooked up at the same venue as Karen. Kind of an industrial looking building, in a restaurant called Lyons Den. Awesome food by the way.

I suppose the rainbow with the pot of gold would be my favorite. The black and white photo of people taking photos. Too cool. And I took a photo of it! Motion of the skater ROCKS!

I have many more ArtPrize photos but this internet connection is too slow. My only option will run to my sisters house, where fast internet and cable and all things 2011 happen. Unlike the black hole of my Poverty Corner.

Have a great weekend internet. See you soon!

Another peice of me…

I used to own two pet Boa Constrictors.

I am left-handed.

I recently joined the gym again and want to go daily although my muscles tell me otherwise.

I hate driving and avoid expressways.

My housecleaning skills have declined over the years. I blame most of it on access to the internet.

I used to have a dirt bike and although I will never own another motorcycle… the last couple years I have enjoyed riding on the backs of others.

I have never gotten a speeding ticket. I was pulled over once and he told me to slow down and let me go.

Snow is not my friend.

Six months after I gave birth to Scooter, I had to sign a waiver for life insurance saying I didn’t have an eating disorder. I weigh more now than I did when I was pregnant. 5’7″ 150 pounds isn’t fat!

Wanna loose 15 pounds!

I am always envious of those who had a good childhood. I feel I was forced to grow up way before I needed to.

All my grandparents, parents and step mother are long gone. Holidays are now spent at Poverty Corner.

Stretch is in his home town of New Orleans again, for a funeral this time. He just texted … going to the fair. We have plans to get together when he flies back on Tuesday.

I used to be a diet coke-aholic and have kicked the habit. Now its water with a dash of crystal light for flavor.

“D” and I have been hanging out on Fridays lately. No contact yesterday. Mutual lost interest perhaps. I don’t believe I could ever trust him after what he put me through.

I wonder if I will ever get married again.

All the men I have dated lately have been married at least twice and say they will never do it again.

I have been divorced for 17 years.

I love cheese.

I still want to be a “kept”woman.

I really would love to get off the “grid”

My sisters and I own 40 acres of Gods green earth. It’s been in our family since 1950.

Moon Shadow

ok, a couple of months ago, a friend hooked me up with a guy that actually works for our same company. Without ever meeting this guy, he comes and picks me up on his Harley while 3 other couples on bikes wait at the bottom of my driveway. Homeboy doesn’t have a backrest! I had to hold on to a perfect stranger for 30 minutes until we reached our destination. We had a meal and then headed to the new Casino to listen to my favorite band. With all the noise and people we really didn’t get much conversation going and unfortunately for reasons unknown we just hadn’t hooked up again.

Enter last Saturday. Tricks party at the American Legion. What a gentleman. Tall. And my gawd, I have never EVER been the fat one on a date but this guy is trim as in very thin. I have always been the skinny one! ALWAYS. Then along comes Stretch. I was told he likes to dance but he said he didn’t want to embarrass me and I once again had to shake my legs with the girls. The slow song. Well, hello there skinnier than skinny!

So today we emailed back and forth a bit at work. When when I get home he texts me… “I want to feed you, how long until you are ready?” I say 30 minutes. He says he would be here in 25.

This man loves to eat and knows how to clear a plate! I ordered fish and chips and couldn’t eat it all.

I am on a diet! At work I had a yogurt, an apple and popcorn (95% fat-free) for lunch. He knows I don’t have meals after work. He doesn’t want me skinnier than him, that’s it! So, wow I think we like each other.

Just when “D” and I have started hanging out a bit. As friends. I know, I know. You have to read back about the love of my life that broke my heart more than any other EVER!

“D” has changed. I actually asked him to go to the American Legion thing with me. He said he doesn’t go to “clubs” anymore. We used to have so much fun out dancing. Not a rejection lover, I told him I would find someone else and I did. “D” works from sunup to sundown now. Antisocial bigtime. And to tell you the truth, I really feel sorry for him. He is so stuck in his material world. He has 3 boats now. I actually went with him when he made his last purchase. A big house boat. It’s a fixer upper. He called me last night whining about an 80 yr old man running a red light and t-boning him in his prized beemer. I knew exactly what he was feeling. I am sure it about killed him. He said he thought it was some sort of omen, his car being wrecked. That perhaps he needs to grow up and realize that material things are stupid. HA!!!

So Stretch brings me home tonight and I get my guitar down for him to play. And he played Moon Shadow by Cat Stevens. He didn’t like my cheap Encore, circa 1980something guitar. Plus he has long fingers and had a hard time with it. Can’t wait to hear more… at his house… with a real guitar. I will be seeing him again. After he gets back from a trip to his home town of New Orleans. He leaves Wednesday morning. Unfortunately an unplanned trip for his sister’s husbands funeral. But man ‘o man do I see Mardi Gras in my future?
